PixelPixel, the powerhouse indie-jazz ensemble from Norway, got their definite breakthrough with the indelible first impression “Reminder”, an audaciously creative debut album on Cuneiform Records. Led by the Prize Award winner of Statkraft’s “Young Star” 2012: the 26-year-old bassist/vocalist Ellen Andrea Wang, the protean quartet is the most alluring band yet to explode out of Norway’s burgeoning improvised music scene. Wang, Jon Audun Baar (drums), Harald Lassen (saxophone) and Jonas Kilmork Vemøy (trumpet) combines indie rock energy with the improvisational flexibility of a post-bop combo. Pixel breaks down familiar musical elements and recombines them in a succession of new and original soundscapes.
Pixel has during the last year been touring in Norway and England and played for a fully packed sold-out Vortex Jazz Club during London Jazz Festival. Their single and music video “Call Me” has been listed on several radio stations in the USA, Germany and France |
